Hello,
a bit about me:
Hello! I'm Phoebe, a 31 year old freelance English <> Chinese <> Malay translator based in Malaysia.
I am a chartered accountant (ACCA equivalent) and commenced my career with PricewaterhouseCoopers and HSBC Global Asset Management Limited. Being a freelancer/translator of many local and overseas agencies, ever since April 2007, I've translated over 6 million words of various materials in 10 years. I completed my first assignment as a translator when I was 18 years old, working for a Movie producing firm. I soon left that job to expand my horizons without knowing that two years later I would return to the translation world, from a different perspective.
I am a Malaysian so I can speak fluent Mandarin, English, Cantonese and Malay. I translate from English into Chinese (my native variant), Malay (National language in Malaysia). I've lived in Malaysia, UK and New Zealand. This makes me highly aware of cultural issues and language nuances.
I work with state-of-the-art software for human translation, usually called CAT tools (Trados, MemoQ, Transit and other tools as requested), as it allows me to conduct quality assurance steps before delivering my work.
I'm fast and accurate, and although I enjoy challenges, I only translate texts related to subjects I'm comfortable with. I provide expertise, availability, timeliness and good humor at reasonable rates.

Do you offer other linguistic services, besides translation?
Absolutely! I offer proofreading, editing, machine-translation post-editing, subtitling, monolingual transcription, bilingual transcription, in-country linguistic validation, you name it.
I believe in staying ahead of the curve. I own and use SDL Trados 2017, memoQ, Wordfast Pro 4 and other CAT tools. I’m also used to online CAT tools, and I’m an extremely fast learner, so new tools can be accommodated as well!
What about Translation-Editing-Proofreading? I need client-ready files.
Sure – I can work along with a second professional and deliver client-ready TEP’d files.
My files are confidential. Will you be sharing them with anyone else?
Certainly not. First, it’s in my working terms; and second, I’d be more than willing to sign an NDA before I even look at the files.
My rates range from $0.06 to $0.12 per word, depending on the project's volume, deadline, and field. I offer discounts on fuzzy matches and repetitions, and I regularly offer my services on a pro bono basis.
Do you use any CAT tools?
I have quite a large volume to handle in a tight deadline. Do you have a team we could rely on?
Yes I do! I work with more than twelve close colleagues, all professional translators who work only in their native tongues and in their fields of expertise. I have NDA’s in place with them as well and I’m personally responsible for the quality of any work I send your way.
